We sighted the Zeppelin in Prunedale

On July 28 we were driving north on Highway 101 when we sighted the Zeppelin in Prunedale and it was heading North. We actually followed it and past Gilroy we passed it. We stopped in Morgan Hill along 101 and I was walking the dog. I looked for the ship to the south but couldn't find it. Then I realized that it was right overhead and I missed it. That is when I saw the rear engine. I was amazed how quiet it was. Can you tell me the type of power of the engines? Then we caught it again at Moffett field and passed it as we headed into San Francisco.

Great day.

How fun to have our very own zeppelin!

I just happened to be driving home to Sunnyvale on 101 when I saw you up there. Very cool! I mentally noted the website and checked it out when I got home. How fun to have our very own zeppelin!

I have some ideas for you: Sporting events, beaches, and outdoor events like Art and Wine festivals.

I saw you in SF on 07-26-09 and thought what an awesome present for my two 16 year olds as a birthday present.

Over Morgan Hill this afternoon

I watched N704LZ pass slightly to the east of my house, northbound over Morgan Hill at 12:22 this afternoon, until it disappeared over the roof.

Very clear views of Zeppelin drive and control surfaces.

Must have been a glorious morning up there.

She looked very beautiful as she floated across the blue Summer sky

We were driving over the Bay Bridge from the East Bay towards the beautiful city of San Francisco at about 11.15am today, and my younger son spotted the airship coming towards us. Both the children were more than excited to see it. Sadly, as I was driving, I didn't manage to get a picture.

She looked very beautiful as she floated across the blue Summer sky.

You were overflying my birthday party

You where overflying my birthday party this July 4th and it was my favorite present by far.

We live in San Pedro and are often visited by the Goodyear Blimp at rather close quarters, and have flown on it two years ago.
The pilot said that they often use our very tall date palm as a mark. We love our Blimp but we hope to cruise with you the next time you come south.

Rigid Lighter-Than-Air lives again and we couldn't be more excited!

Thank you,
Jonn and Maureen Retsek

Cruised across Santa Barbara County

The Airship Ventures Zeppelin N704LZ Eureka cruised across Santa Barbara County on its way from Long Beach to its home base at Moffett Field on Wednesday, July 8, 2009. It passed over UCSB and Isla Vista at 1:22 PM PDT. It was cruising at an altitude of 2,800 feet and a speed of 37 knots. It passed so quietly that most bystanders failed to notice it.

Needless to say, I was thrilled!

I was in San Francisco with my family in early January and unexpectedly saw your ship over the bay; needless to say I was thrilled; my son wanted to take pictures of me with the ship in the background, but I did not want to miss the chance to watch the ship by posing for pictures, as you can see in these snapshots!

Heading down Pacific Coast highway, hope to see it again July 4!

5/25/2009 - (Sorry this is almost a month late, but I just saw your "submit pics" link)

Heading down Pacific Coast highway, home from spending the afternoon with my spouse's mom and grandma, and followed the Eureka from Long Beach to Huntington Beach, where it made a U-turn. We opened our sunroof so the kids could see it better while driving, and we pulled over at the Dog Beach bluffs so I could take a few pictures. You don't get to see an actual zeppelin every day.

Hope to see it again when it's down here over the weekend of the 4th; come fly over HB's parade!

Thanks for adding a new highlight to Vertical Challenge

As always, it was exciting and impressive to see the Eureka come in to land during the air show at San Carlos airport today. The pilots made a valiant effort to land in the windy conditions but when I saw the ground crew pack up the "Stairway to Heaven" I knew that they decided to yield to safety and make the landing elsewhere. Thanks for adding a new highlight to Vertical Challenge.

A 2nd Ship?

I've read in OC REGISTER through the Airship Times at Zimbio that there is an interest of AV in purchasing a second ship for which it seeks a name. Is there a contest related to that?

The Zeppelin appeared over Gaviota Pass

The Airship Ventures Zeppelin is on its way from Long Beach to Moffett Field. It is overcast here in Goleta, so I drove up to Buellton and parked at the north end of Avenue of the Flags. The Zeppelin appeared over Gaviota Pass and cruised along Highway 101 at an altitude of 1900 feet. It went past, about 2000 feet east of me.

At less than 300' elevation and fighting some strong cross winds, it was a thrilling sight

Laura saw a brief report on the news that your Airship would be at Long Beach, California for a promotional flight for the Disney movie "Up". We drove to the Long Beach Airport and found a policeman who directed us to a secret location not available to the public. We were not allowed on the grounds to witness the landings and "Up Ship" take-offs. As we were leaving the area after parking at the Boeing Aircraft Plant we saw the "Eureka" headed back to the landing site along a Southeasterly approach. We drove back to the fenced landing site and waited for the zeppelin to catch up to us. At less than 300' elevation and fighting some strong cross winds, it was a thrilling sight.

Alien Airship Spotted in South Bay

Living in the South Bay, I'm used to seeing the Goodyear blimp quite often, floating over Palos Verdes or San Pedro. Imagine my surprise to see a LARGE white airship cruising over the Harbor Freeway (110) yesterday afternoon. Trying not to have an accident, I watched the ship as much as possible until I got a good enough look to see the words "UP" on the side. What a Great way to promote the new Disney/Pixar film. After finding out the airship will be in the area for a week or so is exciting. My only regret is that I can't afford to take a ride. Oh well, perhaps I'll go to where it's moored and get as close as I can.

I can't wait to ride in it myself someday, wish I had had a camera!

I've been fascinated by the zeppelin since it flew into the Bay Area on my birthday last year. My first sighting a few months ago was great, I was at work at Chevron Park in San Ramon and it flew directly over us, heading north up the San Ramon Valley. I can't wait to ride in it myself someday, wish I had had a camera!

While working in our garden in Mountain View (about a mile from Moffett Field) my wife and I were lucky enough of have the zeppelin fly directly over us. Very good view of the new graphics! We never get tired of seeing it. The dog, however, was confused, and was looking up at it and barking.

Eureka Sighting while working Helo Ops

I was out with the Coast Guard all day until late. We were working Helo Ops -- helping Coast Guard helicopter pilots and engineers maintain their certifications for basket drops and man-in-the-water drills. I did manage to squeeze off a few shots of the Eureka in between drops.

Here they are plus a couple of the Ops.

The zeppelin glided gracefully over the quad

As I was on my way to class at Stanford Continuing Studies, the zeppelin glided gracefully over the quad. No one seemed to pay much attention as it is apparently a common sight now, but I had to take photos of the sighting. I was a few minutes to class, but it was worth it!

The gorgeous Zeppelin lofting over our home during a Spring full moon

My 16-year-old daughter and all her friends came running into the living room screeming, "Look, look! Mom. Come look!" It was a lovely early spring evening during the full moon so I thought maybe it was the fantastic moonrise. No. Better. It was the gorgeous Zeppelin lofting over our home during a Spring full moon. Breathtaking.

Over Stanford this Weekend

I went to walk the trail at the Stanford Dish on Saturday afternoon and I saw the airship over the bay. Then the pilot turned west and flew pretty much right over me. Bet it was a nice day for a flight.

Juxtaposition of the yachts on the bay, with the airship in the sky

This was taken shortly after we arrived in San Francisco in February from our 23rd story apartment in North Beach. It reminded me of a 'very slow' (and probably unsuccessful) escape attempt from Alcatraz. I really like the juxtaposing of the yachts on the bay, with the airship in the sky - all powered by wind/air.

Just seeing it slide gracefully across the sky brings a smile to my face

Today morning, I saw the Zeppelin inviting to "Fly with me". I remembered having seen it a few months earlier and being intrigued by it! This time, I made sure to note down the phone number. Just seeing it slide gracefully across the sky brings a smile to my face...I wonder how it would feel to really ride in it! Some day soon....

"Papa! It's the zeppelin!"

It's always exciting to see something unique flying in the sky. I was very excited to see your airship several times since coming back to the bay area late last year. Now I'm always on the lookout when I'm out and about and I've even got my 3 yr old daughter looking up. She saw the ship from our patio window one late afternoon and came screaming to me "Papa! It's the zeppelin!". I grabbed my camera and took this picture at 5:35 PM on Feb 20 2009 as it passed directly over our house in Foster City.

This sound was coming from the trees above!!!

We're in Mountain View about 4 miles from Moffett field. Out working in the yard last month, I became aware of the increasing volume of a leafblower sound - like a gardener was walking down the street.

Except this sound was coming from the trees above!!!

I had just enough time to madly dash inside and grab the camera before it again disappeared behind the trees....

Now I have a glimmer of what presence of the 1930's USS MACON was like.

Thanks!

A pilots "dos-si-do with the airship"

It was probably 2 months ago, I was flying back from South County airport (I am a student pilot and I was flying a solo cross-country as part of my training). I was talking to the Moffett tower controller who gave me very clear instructions, twice, to stay well west of the field as the airship was coming in to land. I acknowledged I would do so. When I switched to the Palo Alto tower, that controller told me to "make straight in" which would have resulted in me turning directly in front of the airship. I replied I couldn't do that because of the airship, so he told me, "when able, make straight in" which I interpreted as fly past the airship, then make the necessary turn. The result was what a pilot friend called "a dos-si-do with the airship." Unfortunately I was alone and couldn't get any pictures, but as we turned around each other I had a beautiful view!

I now still get excited everytime I see it!

I was walking in Bair Island (Redwood City)10/25/09 and spotted the air ship. Ran home to find out more information. I believe I was viewing the Bay Area's maiden voyage? It was thrilling to see. I now still get excited everytime I see it and plan to surprise my husband on his next birthday with a tour; can't wait!

US Navy Ships with Mooring Masts

As zeppelin history, the US Navy had two oilers (tankers) equipped with mooring mast to permit the replenishment of the dirigibles MACON, AKRON, SHENANDOAH & LOS ANGELES at sea to extend their search range. The concept was that as the dirigible approached the oiler, the oiler would swing around and steam astern. The airship would then approach over the bow of the oiler and line up over the ship's hull; then when positioned the airship would send down hoses for fuel and water and food.

For some images, Google: ' USS PATOKA ' and scroll down to NH 73285 & 76379

I see the Airship Ventures Zeppelin quite frequently

I see the Airship Ventures Zeppelin quite frequently, sometimes when it is flying over San Francisco, sometimes when it is flying near Highway 101 near Palo Alto, and I even happened to see the Zepplin when it was flying near where we reside in Half Moon Bay. The photo I am attaching is one I took when my husband and I stopped at Baker Beach near the Golden Gate Bridge on January 31, 2009. We had been standing at the beach watching the ocean and people for only a few minutes when the Airship Ventures Zepplin came into view. I snapped several photos of the Zepplin as it was flying over the Golden Gate Bridge. I am attaching one of the photos taken that day.

We love all the sightings we have experienced, and hope to see the Airship Ventures Zepplin for many years to come (and perhaps have the opportunity to ride on it one day).

I looked up to see something that brought me back in time

I was sitting on my bed looking out the sliding door at our garden, facing the bay here in Hayward. I looked up to see something that brought me back in time. I was not alive to see the early airships but being a history buff I knew of them and all about them. Seeing you in the air was incredible!! I thought how great it is to see that flying with a blue sky behind it. I was not quick enough to grab my camera. I was transfixed by the Airship.
